Inspired by Kurdish folk jewelry the cloves, strung into a necklace, are an ancient blessing in Kurdish cultural heritage. Worn as festive jewelry, protective amulet or practical perfume the QERANFÎL carries layers of beauty, health and cultural symbolism.
Fragrance & Freshness: The spicy scent of cloves acted as a natural perfume, especially at weddings, Newroz, and village gatherings.
Adornment & Beauty: Worn as festive jewelry, often by women and girls, sometimes combined with colorful beads.
Health & Protection: In folk belief, cloves carried cleansing powers, supported digestion, and protected against the evil eye. Necklaces were even placed on children as amulets.
Social & Symbolic Meaning: Gifting someone cloves is an expression of affection. They symbolize sweetness, purity, and love.
Regional Variations: Known as sîsîkên qeranfîlê or mêxek in Kurmanji areas, mala qeranfîl in Sorani and qeranfîl destmalî in Zazaki regions.
